The Green MSMEs Initiative II, promoted by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), the German government through KfW, and the European Union, supported the development of the Regional Diploma in Microfinance for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Initiatives, taught by the Panamerican Agricultural School Inc., known as Zamorano, in Honduras.

The program, which lasted 17 weeks and was delivered in a hybrid format, was attended by 27 representatives from 22 financial institutions in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic.

The purpose of the course was to strengthen the capacities and competencies of officials from institutions in the banking and financial sector, providing them with the tools to evaluate, structure, and finance sustainable clean energy projects with a focus on MSMEs.

This training aimed to establish a community of green financial leaders in Central America, capable of promoting sustainable financial inclusion, fostering strategic alliances, and actively contributing to the region's economic and environmental development.

During the training process, participants strengthened their knowledge of the regional energy and climate context, analyzed renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, applied financial tools to evaluate green projects, designed microfinance schemes adapted to MSMEs, assessed the technical and economic feasibility of sustainable initiatives, and formulated green financing projects based on real cases.

"The Regional Diploma in Microfinance for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Initiatives, promoted by the Green MSMEs Initiative, provided me with practical and up-to-date tools to understand how green financing can become a driver of transformation towards more sustainable models. Participating allowed me to strengthen my technical and financial skills to identify, evaluate, and support projects that promote energy transition and resource efficiency," said Suany Zepeda of Banco Atlántida in El Salvador, a beneficiary of the program.

Through this certificate program, participants not only enhance their professional profile but also become agents of change, generating additional green financing opportunities for MSMEs at the regional level.
